When he is bullied for not having a father, he decides to ask many people in the village where he can find his father. Summary: The Lord of the Sun sent a spark of life to earth, which resulted in the protagonist of our tale. Reader’s Annotation: The Lord of the Sun’s son is determined to find him, and will go through many trials to prove himself. That being said, the story seems rich and certainly follows a traditional tale narrative style, which is easy to read aloud, short and only enhanced by the colorful, and Pueblo art inspired geometric art.Overall, this is a rich story book, though does not follow the standards for traditional story telling. I would criticize the lack of citation with this book- there is no indication as to where the original tale came from, or the context into which we could put the story, or analyze the reworking of this tale from McDermott’s point of view. McDermott is not seemingly an expert on Pueblo Indians, but we worked closely with Joseph Campbell to create animated films on mythology. Because this is a traditional mythological Pueblo Indian tale, it is important that authenticity is taken into account. $16.99Īnalysis: I’m going to discuss authenticity of this re-telling, including illustrations and language.
